Grading and Site Preparation

Grading and Site Preparation in Bozeman

Good drainage starts with good grade. Radar58 handles topsoil stripping, cut and fill, and rough-to-finish grading that shapes a lot to the plan, sets pad elevations, and builds the drainage slopes that carry runoff away from where you live and work. Whether you are prepping for a new build off Oak Street or leveling a yard that has drifted out of grade over the years, we grade to a compacted, buildable subgrade and confirm the slope drains.

Why the Subgrade Matters

A pretty final grade means nothing if the fill under it settles. That is why we compact structural fill in controlled lifts and confirm density (commonly 95 percent of maximum dry density by Proctor test) before anything sits on top of it. In the freeze-and-thaw climate of the Gallatin Valley, a poorly compacted pad heaves and sinks, and the drainage you paid for disappears with it. We build the base to hold.

Our Process

We strip and stockpile topsoil, cut and fill to balance the site, and rough-grade to the target elevations. We compact in lifts, then finish-grade the surface to positive drainage slopes away from structures. We use laser and GPS grade control to hit the plan, and we can prep a compacted aggregate base for a driveway or road in the same pass.
